and speaking of shoes...

Thursday, January 31, 2013

have you seen these?!!! i feel like someone crawled into my head and took all of my favorite things and created a shoe based on that. holy shmoke & a pancake. i died when i saw them on pinterest, & i should have known right away they would be from anthropologie... the only unfortunate thing is the price. what a bummer. that is like how much i spent on badgley mischkas for my wedding. maybe if they go on sale... a girl can dream can't she? here are some more pretty pics to swoon over... sigh. & if you still want more, here is the link!

blowing the dust off my sneaks

i know this is totally not a big deal... but to me it is, & this is my blog, so here it goes... drumroll please... yesterday i drove! it hurt a lot, but i drove! AND went to the gym for the first time since my surgery!! it was a very, very big deal for me.  i climbed into my jeep, turned on the radio, drove myself to get coffee, & headed to the gym. it was incredibly liberating having not been able to drive for 7 months & completely amazing getting to break a bit of a sweat with one of my great friends Lisa. and who knew i'd be a member of Planet Fitness (holy smokes they have great deals!) for $20 a month i purchased the black card & husband can come with me ANYTIME for free when he's not on duty. so you really can't beat that... i finally got to put on my favorite sneakers & get some endorphins flowing & stretch it out... i highly recommend it! & so this girl is happy happy at the moment & there is nothing better than that :)

semi-homemade Sprinkles cupcakes!

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

while pete was in california this past december, he asked me if i wanted anything from san francisco and i jokingly said "fly me home some Sprinkles cupcakes!" ...and so he came home & all of a sudden i had spice & banana cupcake mix in my hands that even included the little sugar decorations. i was jumping up and down. and now here we are, one snowy day, & the kitchen smells of a bakery & i'm licking cream cheese frosting off my fingers. great success.

 SWEATER: Laundry
TOP: Gap
TIGHTS: Vera Wang
BOOTS: Kohls

today's outfit called for some color, & stripes, & mittens since it is snowing out there. pete is home & we are running errands & then collapsing on the couch in front of the fire with my family who all have half days of work due to the weather. happy monday everyone!

over the past week: husband edition

Sunday, January 27, 2013

husband's duty week during the winter includes:
energy drinks + coast guard gear
boats + freezing cold men
a Sandy Hook sunset + cleaning lighthouse lenses
driving boats + saving lives
lounging watching fights + patrolling underway

this week was pete's long week where he was only home 2 days... you get an idea of what they do everyday while they are on duty. it is pretty quiet during the winter because not many people are out on the water, but they still go out to patrol & do coast guard things :)

hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. we are getting ready to watch the celtics/heat game by the fire! stay warm!

over the past week

a golden B ring (for Babnis) came in the mail! + i baked my famous sprinkle cookies
this red shirt became my new favorite + i made a j.crew accessory run
my mom and i went to Cinderella's Attic here
& i purchased this BCBG shrug for $15 (perfect for a winter wedding)
+ these 7 for all Mankind jeans for $11
the kittens and i cuddled by the fire everyday
i framed a new fox print + bought a new book
(because i judge turquoise books by their covers)
i'm kind of in love with the inside of husband's backpack + i felt like an AllStar in my converse sneaks
& we went to see little brother's indoor soccer game & it was friggin freezing
(but nothing a few bud lights + ombre gloves can't fix!)

currently craving: claire danes

Claire Danes. ugh i love this actress. always have & always will. she was fabulous in Romeo + Juliet, charming in The Family Stone, absolutely amazing in Temple Grandin & now has blown me away in Homeland. she is currently gracing the cover of February's edition of Elle magazine (go grab one!), and with her recent success at the Golden Globes, it is no wonder i'm all about miss Danes at the moment. if you haven't watched Homeland yet, order Showtime and say to yourself "this is the best decision i've made this month" and immerse yourself in a world of plotting, cover ups, & CIA goodness. all the while marveling at the amazing acting going on & trying to figure out who is good & who is bad. i can not wait for season 3 in the fall, it is that good. and that blonde hair on the cover?! you can just see the wheels in my head turning... inspiration, inspiration.

DRESS: Lucky
BOOTS: Kohls
TIGHTS: Macy's

this week has been cold & slow. perfect for polka dot tights to liven up the mood & new two toned boots. and sometimes a long shirt just needs to turn into a dress.

*i just recently met another woman who broke her tailbone giving birth & has been suffering for two years with pain so i thought i would give a quick tailbone update because i started sharing my story from the beginning and i plan on seeing it through til the end: my wound is still open & healing. it is only about a 1/4 inch deep, but it is taking its sweet time closing up. i still have pain, but i believe the surgery (even with the spinal infection & set back) was a success because when i sit, i only feel wound pain, not the deep aching i had before the surgery. unfortunately the fall i took down the stairs a couple weeks ago affected me emotionally & i am currently working through the realization that i haven't been able to drive, work out, have a job, etc... in over six months. i realize i still have a long road ahead, but this blog in particular has helped me tremendously in my recovery. i know it can look like pretty pictures and trips to california, but behind it are struggles that everyone goes through, especially those who have been through a traumatic experience.  i am beyond grateful for those who follow this blog daily & all the kind words & comments. thanks girls :)
xoxo.

TOP: Anthropologie (on sale!) here
JEANS: J.Crew similar here
BOOTS: Kohls

today was spent running errands & getting a flu shot (finally!) in my comfy cozy red top. red is probably one of my least favorite colors in general, but one of my favorite colors to wear... weird i know. and that last photo is trying to coax a cat over to me... the standard crouch & wait pose :)

husband and i are currently cuddled up in front of the fire rooting for San Fran & eating some bomb tex mex dip. enjoy your sunday activities & see ya tomorrow!
